(I work at the gift shop in a hotel, and we have small toothpaste samplers that we give free to customers who need them, provided they’re guests of the hotel.)

Guest: *brings up a toothbrush and bottled drink* “Just these please. I’ll put them on my room.”

Me: “Oh, sure! I’ll just need you to write down your guest info.” *Prints receipt for him to enter his name and room number on*

Guest: “I felt so stupid, forgetting my toothbrush at home. Oh, sorry, before you finish the bill, could I also grab some toothpaste?”

Me: “Oh, sure! And are you a guest of the hotel?”

Guest: *Looks from me to the guest receipt I JUST had him sign* “Uh…”

Me: “…Yeah, that’s one of the dumber questions I’ve asked in a while.”
