(One of my friends has the legal name Dori. Due to my own experiences with some family and family friends with unusual names that sound like nicknames, I have never questioned this. Then comes the day we watch “Finding Nemo” in French class.)
Movie!Dori: (in French) My name is Doris.
(My friend immediately glares daggers at the screen but doesn’t say anything. After class, I am about to ask if she’s okay.)
Friend: I can’t believe they did that! Ugh; I am so sick of people saying to me “Dori; how cute. It’s short for Doris, right?” NO! It’s my name!
