(I’m sitting in a restaurant with my grandmother, waiting for my brother and a couple of his friends to arrive. My grandmother is known for being the sweetest person you could ever meet, and I’ve never heard her make any sort of racist comments before. My brother walks in with his friends. One of the guys is an African American. He says he’s forgotten his phone in the car, so he walks out to grab it.) Grandmother to me: (with a horrified look on her face) Are you sure they serve coloreds in this restaurant?
