Unfiltered Story #421690
My uncle does woodworking as a hobby. When my cousin was little, our uncle (not the cousin’s father) decided that he was going to make a nice wooden chest as a toy box for his new nephew, something sturdy that would survive anything my cousin and his siblings could put it through.
My uncle apparently took great pride in selecting the wood and putting it all together. Then came the final step: painting. Naturally, he asked the nephew (who was about four years old) what color he wanted the box.
Cousin: “ORANGE!”
Uncle: “. . . Are you sure?”
Cousin’s mom: “Have you seen his room? Everything is orange. He’s obsessed with orange.”
Cousin: “Orange! Orange! Orange!”
So, my uncle gritted his teeth and painted the toy box orange. It just about killed him to do it, but it was what his precious little nephew wanted. The orange toy chest matched perfectly with the orange walls, which both remained until my cousin moved out. I still feel a little sad seeing his old orange room now turned into a gray office, but at least the toy chest had a good run!
