Unfiltered Story #417568

A friend recently helped me get into playing Dungeons & Dragons. Pretty much everyone in our group works some kind of customer service/retail job, me included.

My character for our campaign is basically a rich girl who ran away from home; she’s got a good heart deep down, but this early on, is nowhere near as altruistic as she makes herself out to be. Case in point, she’s really only interested in doing heroic things to get public adoration – and, more importantly, discounts/free stuff from grateful NPCs. She’s obviously upset when she can’t pull this trick at places like jewelry shops or spas, and despite having a high Charisma stat (plus a bonus to persuading others), some bad rolls ruin her attempts to haggle.

We chat among ourselves as the DM sets up things for a change of scene, mostly poking fun at our own failures.

Me: “[My Character] is just gonna try to convince the next shopkeeper that giving her free stuff is good advertising because of her looks and- oh NO, I’ve turned her into an influencer!”

Rest of the Group: *groaning and laughing*

We’re already getting up to enough shenanigans in the story, so maybe I’ll try brainstorming something involving a magic mirror streaming setup with the DM…
