Unfiltered Story #417567

Many years ago, when I was finishing my last semester of university, I shared an apartment with three people I didn’t really know, having been matched by the rental agency when my prior apartment mates ended up leaving (one deported- a story in itself-, one failed out, one moved home). The match wasn’t terrible, given it was only one semester, but one apartment mate was more interested in sportsball than academics. Lets call him *superfan*.

As an engineering major who wanted to graduate, I had a LOT of homework, project work, and studying in my senior and graduate level courses. *superfan* was a soph majoring in, I kid you not, warehouse management. His life revolved around the weekend starting on Wednesday, going on every sportsteam away game trip, though he played none, and the parties that preceded and followed the games. He thought I must be pretty dim, since I spent so much time at the library studying and he barely needed to study at all, and still had mostly A’s.

One evening, while I was studying for the midterm for a hellish course, and, for a change, in the apartment due to construction at the library and the chaos there due to midterms, but it was Wednesday night. *Superfan* was working on his homework for a 200 level class in his major I never took, and knew nothing about, and ran a monologue about how hard it was and he had a party to go to and it wasn’t reasonable, and so on. After about three hours of this, I finally got fed up and looked at his assignment. It took maybe ten or fifteen minutes for me to do it for him and give him the boot.

When he got the assignment back, he was strangely quiet. It turns out that it was the highest grade he got for an assignment in the class to that point. He didn’t talk to me again until I moved out at the end of the semester, and signed the lease over to another apartment mate.
