I’m a grown woman reminiscing with my mom about when I was younger. The topic of relationships comes up. Note, my mom was very active in the parish community and knew the parents of almost everyone in my age group. I was also chronically shy growing up and never reveled much of my personal feelings.

Me: Yeah, so, I’ve never told anyone this… I had a major crush on [boy] in 8th grade.

Mom: Oh honey. I knew that. I think everyone did.

Me: [processing the ‘EVERYONE knew ‘ part] …Well. So much for revealing a secret.

Mom: His mom even mentioned it at [church group]. She wanted him to ask you out but he was too shy himself.

Me: Not helping.

[Boy] and I ended up in different life paths and didn’t cross ways again after school. Guess the road not taken will forever remain a mystery.
