Unfiltered Story #412325
[I used to deliver pizzas for a certain national chain. When I initially worked there, we took orders by writing on a 3-up carbon copy sheet. We eventually went to the order takers using a computer program to input the customers’ orders.]
[Years later, when I’m now a semi-regular customer, on-line ordering came into vogue. That was usually fine, except when my wife accidentally ordered my pizza without cheese.]
[Then the ultimate app came out: instead of order with computer controls, it had a voice interface that you would speak your order to, and it would transcribe it and place the order. I asked my wife this question:]
Me: How is this voice-app any different from actually calling the store and speaking to a human? Besides getting our order wrong?
[Soon thereafter, the pizza chain discontinued their voice-app option.]
