Unfiltered Story #412324
I work at a hotel. While I normally work evening shift, the overnight auditor recently had a personal emergency, so I’ve been covering his shifts. This means I’ve been meeting certain guests that try to trick me because they think I’m new. This guy was a particularly egregious example.
He walks in and requests a room, paid in cash.
Me: Alright, sir. Just to let you know, we require a $150 deposit if you’re paying in cash.
Guest: Really? I’ve stayed here dozens of times and I’ve never been charged more than $50 for a deposit.
Me: It’s been $150 for as long as I’ve worked here.
Guest: [leaning in] Look sweetheart, I know you’re new, but that’s the price I’m always charged.
Me: I’ve worked here for almost two years, sir, just not on nights. The deposit has always been $150.
The guest was pretty awkward and quiet after that, but he paid everything without any more fuss. I’m guessing he was embarrassed because his little ploy didn’t work.
For the record, the system says he’s only been here twice, not “dozens of times”.
