Unfiltered Story #400955
[in the 1980s, I had a married couple as co-workers who worked in my office. They had commuted from a city in an adjacent state about 50 miles away to our office for years. They finally decided to move to an apartment within walking distance of the office. ]
[This was in the days of land line phones instead of cell phones. They had to cancel their service in one state and start a new line in their new state. (Even though they were still subscribing to the same “Baby Bell” company, they couldn’t just transfer their service with a phone number change.)]
[Through a billing error, they paid a whole 2 cents over the final amount of their old account. Because of the inability to transfer the account, the Bell company actually issued a paper check to my friends in the amount of $0.02. The postage alone to mail the check was eleven times the amount of the check.]
