Unfiltered Story #392155

It was a regular afternoon at the neighborhood bookstore, where my son Tommy, aged 12, and I often dropped by after school. Tommy, a keen reader, decided to tidy up a stack of books that lay scattered on a nearby table, a habit he picked up from his librarian mother.

As he arranged the last book, an elderly couple approached him with curious smiles.

“Hey, kid, you work here?” the gentleman asked bluntly, pointing at Tommy’s hands.

Tommy chuckled nervously, shaking his head. “Nope, just straightening up.”

The elderly lady nodded, her expression unreadable. “Well, someone’s gotta do it, I suppose.”

The gentleman leaned in, his voice gruff. “Listen, son, you got a good head on your shoulders. Ever think about a job here?”

Tommy hesitated, trying to explain that he was still in school, but the couple wasn’t having it. They insisted he had potential, ignoring his protests.

Despite Tommy’s attempts to brush off their suggestions, the couple continued, convinced they had found a hidden gem of a bookstore employee.

In the end, Tommy bid them goodbye with a forced smile, shaking his head at their persistence. As we left the store, he shrugged off the encounter, muttering about nosy strangers and their assumptions.
