Unfiltered Story #392075
My dad used to work in the sales office of a company that sells printers. On paper, his job was making the computers working properly. When his coworkers realised that he could make their printers work properly, they started bringing him all over the country, doing maintenance. At some point, my dad decided that his job would be much easier if he had a car and wouldn’t rely on the sales people and public transport to reach the clients. So he wrote together how much time he spends in transit and how fast things would go with a car of his own. Basically, he wanted to prove that he could do his job better if he had a car.
“I’ll check it, and come back to you” my dad’s boss said.
A few weeks later, the fleet manager seeked out my dad
“hey, you’re up for a company car. One of the sales people left, would you be fine getting his car? He only used it for the two months he was with us, so it works well enough”
“sounds good”
“oh,great. Could you maybe talk to your boss, he insists on getting you a brand new one, which would take forever.”
“hey boss, I heard one of the sales people’s cars is free. Fleet manager needs your approval to assign it to me.”
“but, it’s a used car”
“I know, but it works well enough”
“we can get you a new car, any brand you want. You don’t have to settle for a beat down used car”
“I don’t care how new or nice the car is, it needs to have five wheels, and shouldn’t fall apart under my butt. Fleet manager has such a car, he just needs your approval to assign it to me”
“but, that car isn’t new”
“it’s available now, that’s better than new”
“but, it’s a used car. Don’t you want a new car?”
“I don’t care as long as it has all five wheels. One in each corner, and one to steer”
Finally, the manager signed off on the assignment, srill muttering “it’s not new”
While the car wasn’t new, it would work perfectly until my dad was reassigned to a different office.
