In the midst of an ongoing battle with anxiety, depression, and a sense of existential loneliness, my faith in humanity had hit rock bottom. The feeling of being adrift and having no one to turn to intensified, leaving me with a profound sense of not belonging in the world.

Recently, my struggles took a practical turn with issues concerning my car battery, especially in the cold weather. However, today marked a significant reminder that goodness still exists.

In the past, a neighbor in my apartment complex would assist me in getting the battery charged, enabling me to run errands and return home. Today, without a cellphone, I found myself in a predicament when a single jump start proved insufficient. Despite the reputation some may have of [big box store], this particular location boasts friendly and helpful employees. The manager went above and beyond to find someone capable of aiding me.

In a fortuitous turn of events, while updating my husband on the situation, a compassionate stranger emerged. Not only did he assist in pushing the car out of its spot, but he also helped us get it started again, using our jumper cables. This unexpected act of kindness provided a much-needed reprieve from the challenges I had been facing, reaffirming my belief that there is still goodness in the world.
