Unfiltered Story #389244
I am sitting on the couch at home with my conservative grandmother who is staying with us this week. We are watching the news channel and they are talking about kids in elementary school being able to legally decide there gender and race. I am actually a closeted bisexuals and trans person. I am also white but I have many people who think I am Asian due to my eyes, hair, and olive complexion.
Grandma: (Watching the news story and feeling disgusted) These kids are still in elementary school. They do not know anything. Why are they about to do this without their parents knowledge?!
Me: (Contemplating coming out or make a joke) Nana, I have something to tell you…
Grandma: What?
Me: I’m… I’m…. Asian…
Grandma: (looks at me for a moment and laughs) (in a sarcastic voice) Oh, really. What made you feel this way?
Me: I do not know, all the kids at school walk up to me and ask me if I am Asian and I just came to the conclusion that I am…
We kinda laughed it off, but this could have been a big moment for me. But I could not help but make a joke when they said kids can decide their race and the fact that everyone thinks I am Asian.
