Unfiltered Story #386186
This happened when I was about 3 years old and I have no memory of it but it’s one of my mother’s favorite stories to tell (especially now) so I might as well remember it.
For the majority of my childhood, we lived next door to another family with a son the same age as me. They were a little better off financially than we were and had a full playset in their backyard. This meant I spent quite a lot of time over at their place to play (they didn’t mind, both me and their son were relatively well-behaved for our age and it earned their eldest some babysitting money).
One day, my mom walked over to retrieve me for dinner.
Mom: “Come on, [My Name]! It’s time to go.”
Me: “That’s not my name!”
Mom, amused: “Oh? Well then, what is your name?”
Me: “It’s STEVE!”
Mom: “Okay then, ‘Steve’, let’s go home for dinner.”
Me: “Okay!”
You may or may not be shocked to learn I came out as a trans guy in my teens. Regretfully (not really), I did not choose the name “Steve” to go by; however, my mother does still love to call me “Stevie” to tease me decades later.
