Unfiltered Story #369784
Inspired by this story, this happened at school in the 1970s.
For one class, the teacher had us do an IQ test (wasn’t a formal assessment, I think he was just killing time as he was a substitute). I recognised the test was from an Eysenck book (Check Your Own IQ or something) that I’d worked through before. Okay, I should’ve said I’d already done it, but I couldn’t be bothered and just went along with it.
I was one of the more able pupils in the class, and sitting next to me was Duncan (name changed), one of the less able pupils. Very much less able. During the test I noticed that Duncan was peeking at my answers, but I couldn’t be bothered to hide my work and just ploughed on through.
At the end of the allotted time our answer papers were marked, and the teacher expressed surprise at my mark, indicating a very high IQ, about 20 points above what I’d scored privately before. Again I should’ve said something, but kept quiet. The teacher went through each person’s result, finally getting to Duncan. Duncan’s result was almost as high as mine, and the rest of the class erupted in laughter: they’d all noticed he was sitting next to me, and knew there was no chance he could’ve got that score on his own.
I don’t know what’s happened to Duncan actually. He did get bullied quite a bit. Hope he’s okay now (tried searching for him – he has an unusual name – but nowhere to be found).
