Unfiltered Story #369024

I’ve gone to the gym with my mom and dad in the evening. Typically, my mom will be the first to finish up and go back to the car and wait. My dad would come second and then they would both wait for me to come out and we all go home. I should mention that we live in a very Asian populated area. My parents are above the age of 60 and look their age, they go to the gym to use the pool and get exercise without straining themselves too hard. We also go in the evenings because there’s less people.

After I finish my workout, I go into the parking lot and see a college aged guy leaning on his car parked next to us and staring at our car. As I walk by, he immediately turns his attention to me and starts glaring as I get into my parents’ car.

Me: *In Chinese* Why is that guy staring at us?

Dad: *in Chinese* Just ignore him. Let’s go. *starts backing out of the parking space*

Guy: Yeah that’s right you better leave!

Me: Huh?

My mom huffs rolls down the window and takes her phone out and starts taking pictures of the guy’s license plate, and then

Guy: What the f*ck do you think you’re doing taking pictures of my car you damn chink?!

Me: *in English* What the h*ll?

Mom: *in broken English* You hit me! You wrong! I take photo all I want!

Guy: Come say that to my face you b*tch!

We are now about to drive off but stop at a stop sign. The guy tries to walk intimidatingly towards us while flexing his muscles while my mom yells at him more. I still don’t know exactly what’s going on, but I do know that he just insulted my mother, so I flip him the bird and tell him to f*ck off as we drive away.

Me: *In Chinese* What the h*ll was that guy’s problem?

Mom: That guy’s crazy! After I came out of the gym I was waiting in the car like usual when I heard a loud thump. I look out the window and see that guy opened his door as wide as possible and hit our car!

My mom is so infuriated she starts jumbling her words so my dad continues.

Dad: Your mom says she opened her door and the guy was apologizing at first until he got a good look at her face, then he started cursing at her and calling her all those American slurs for Chinese people.

Mom: I was just sitting there! How dare he yell at me?! He hit me and he yells at me?!

Dad: So I came out right as they were yelling at each other in the parking lot and I got your mom back in the car. Obviously we had to wait for you so we couldn’t leave yet, but that guy started walking in circles around our car. I think he thought we were going to call someone, so that’s why he didn’t go inside or leave.

Hearing all of the details, I’m now frustrated I didn’t do more to stand up to my parents. Whoever you are, I’m hoping karma hits you soon.
