Unfiltered Story #364639
In Australia, I think just in New South Wales, public high school students would get a free laptop in year 9 and if they finished year 12 they would get to keep it.
Now the laptops weren’t the best but they did get better over the years but they were always so slow and many of my classmates and other students in years above and the year below, who were the last year to get the laptops got random issues with them.
I had mine for three years without a problem. Then on a monday in class while I was working on it my laptop start to spew smoke and shoot sparks, and no it wasn’t that hot and I was working on a solid desk.
The teacher sent me down to the tech person (who was also one of my teachers) and he said he would have a look at it, told me to come back on wednesday. I left it with him and checked back on wednesday… he apologised and said something had come up and he had just started to look at my laptop and to come back on friday. Annoying but understandable he was the only tech guy at my high school. I stopped by on friday and had to wait around half an hour after school just to find out that he didn’t know what was going on and he was just giving me a new laptop. Techically an old one that had belong to a kid my year that dropped out. I was there for another half an hour for the madatory updates to load and to log in and sign out. So it was properly reasigned to me
I had to wait a whole week just to be told that I was getting a new one… I’m just glad I had no assignments due.
