I’m at a baseball game with my mom. It’s her first time at the ballpark, and we end up having a lot of fun rooting for our team as they rally from behind for a huge win, but one of the funniest moments of the game happens near the end.

Around the top of the eighth inning, a bumblebee flies down to our section and takes shelter under a seat in our row, just sitting there chilling out. I imagine it’s just tired so I leave it alone — no sense in killing an innocent bee. By the bottom of the eighth, it is no longer there. I think nothing more of it… until I see it crawling up my shoe, and eventually on my skin.

I’m immediately like ‘NOPE NOPE NOPE’ and (admittedly quite foolishly) start trying to shake it off, frantically panicking and dancing like a madman, much to the amusement of my mom and the fans around me. By some crazy miracle, I manage to eventually get it off without getting stung, and it flies down to the row in front of me and lands there, where a fan places their cloth bag over top of it to trap it so that it can’t get on anyone else. After the game ended, my mom and I joked about the incident the whole way home.

In a nutshell, my mom probably won’t remember her first baseball game so much for the come-from-behind win as she will for a little bumblebee making me look completely silly. The bee itself was fine by the way — it nonchalantly flew off towards the field after the game ended and the fan in front of me picked up his bag. I bet it’s pollinating the flowers in the outfield planters as I type this.
