We were having student council elections. There were five people running for student council President. At my school the person who got the most votes became President and the one with the second-most became Vice President.

One of the people “running” for President had a campaign speech that was just “Don’t vote for me. My parents pressured me into this but I don’t want to be on the council.” Then he insulted the student body, to try to remove any potential support.

I heard several people mutter that they’d jokingly vote for him just to piss him off. When the election results were announced, he had enough votes to be elected Vice-President. It was a public announcement, so he couldn’t quit without revealing to his parents what happened, and wound up taking the position.

Middle Schoolers are cruel. I’m glad I’m done with those years.
