[The zoo I work at has a deer feeding area where the fallow deer walk around and people can pat them, feed them, take pictures, etc. Working here, I’ve gotten a lot of crazy questions and heard a lot of things, but this one was my favorite.]
(A child and her mother enter the deer pen and pay for their feed. The deer begin to eat out of the little girl’s hands. As they do, she gives the blankest stare with the coldest, deadest eyes and says…)
Child: Look mommy, I’m feeding the penguins.
