(In my Latin class, we are learning about the Nine Muses, the daughters of Apollo who bring creativity to artists and writers. For a small project, our teacher had us choose a person who was an inspiration to us. We are going around the room, with some choosing to share. Quick note, this takes place in a very liberal pocket of Alabama, a traditionally conservative, religious state.)

Teacher: So [Male Student], who is your muse?

Male Student: My boyfriend, because he loves me no matter what and always supports me.

(The best part? My teacher didn’t even bat an eye. Being a gay individual myself, I sat there grinning like an idiot. I’m only out to my closest friends, but after this, I know that I have a supportive community at my school, and my faith in humanity is restored.
