Unfiltered Story #362312
Our school holds a yearly job fair for graduating students. They invite companies that are involved in IT, Marketing, Multi-media and Newscasting. Sometimes they also invite government agencies and international schools that offer scholarships or conduct exchange programs that could help the students in networking and finding work abroad. The guest companies, agencies and schools are assigned booths for easier access to the students and we just go around signing up for possible job offers or give the representatives our resumes.
There was a booth that offered an exchange program for students who were interested in going to the US to become camp counsellors for a few months or so. I was interested in the program and started to inquire if the airfare and lodgings were free or came out of the student’s pockets. An important thing here is: I do not like children. I can be civil with them and I don’t act like an a** to them. My belief is that regardless if I like them or not, it’s not difficult to show them human decency.
There were two recruiters, one had curly hair and looked a bit taller than me even if she was sitting while her collegue was a bit tinier. Tiny was nicer while the tall girl was quiet and stared at me. It was making me uncomfortable but I just thought that it’s normal for recruiters to do that.
From their banner and tarp in front of the booth, it looked just like a normal exchange program that didn’t involve children. But the curly haired girl’s first words to me was if I like children. I said no and she started acting like I just kicked a puppy in front of her or offended her whole family. I tried back tracking and explaining myself but she kept cutting me off that since I dislike children, the program was not for me. Because it involved children 24/7.
She kept looking at me like I was wasting their time. So, I just inputed my info on their chart of applicants and left the booth. Jeez lady, just because I don’t like children doesn’t mean I’m going to hate every part of the program or them. Maybe just you thought!
