Unfiltered Story #362311
I have gone downstairs for breakfast and hear my name as I enter the kitchen. My mum and brother are in there.
Me: Did I just hear my name?
Brother: Yes. We’re just talking about you using me like a taxi service.
Me: I’ve been in your car like once since you got it.
Brother: Oh really? Then why am I picking you up from work this afternoon?
Me: Because my car is having its MOT, and Mum Dad are going with [Sister] for her first ultrasound. Look, if you don’t want to, it’s fine. I’ll just get the bus.
He leaves in a strop at how I’m using him. My mum is silent for a long time before suggesting that I consider moving out, as I’m causing a lot of tension with using my brother they way that I am. I call her out and we agree on keeping a tally for every time one of use asks for a lift from the other. My brother hates the idea, but my mum and dad agree to it so he has no choice. The condition is that if I am shown to be a hindrance, I have to move out.
The end of the month comes and my name isn’t against anyone (meaning I have not asked for a lift at all), while my brother tops mine and my dad’s, and my mum is equal throughout. Even with this, my brother still claims that I’m using him, and my mum agrees, but can’t justify it so I’m free to stay. My dad on the other hand is shocked at how little my brother has been using the car he bought him, and refuses to give him any more lifts. He also puts down a rule that if you ask for a lift, you pay towards fuel. This stops my brother asking as he is always in overdraft.
This is still an ongoing issue, and personally I think my brother is just trying to force me out by manipulating my mum. I’ve been applying for full time jobs in the mean time, and once I get one I am indeed moving.
My brother is 25 by the way, while I’m 19.
