Unfiltered Story #361385
I work at a government facility as an assistant to a specific unit. I get many compliments on my work and I get along really really well with most people but especially with the people in my unit and they praise me endlessly to anyone and everyone. So the point being that everyone knows my name, in a good way.
The units are run by specific people but lower ranks cover positions as well. One specific lower rank has worked in the unit several times so he knows who I am. Note that I have a very common name.
About 2 months ago the lower rank became full time in the unit and has seen me basically every shift. Since coming in, he has acted like it’s HIS unit. It’s rubbed a few people the wrong way. (Although I’m just an assistant I could run that unit with my eyes closed). So the other day he needed something from me. We’ll call it, paper.
Co-worker: hey, [not my name] we are in need of paper.
Me: Me? We have tons of paper right there. *I point to a stack* and that’s not my name.
Co-worker: Oh sorry. You’re name is [my correct name] right? Sorry. You look like a [wrong name].
Me: Really? You don’t know my name??
I gave him the “you’re stupid” look with a cocked head, finished what I was doing and walked away. I still haven’t seen any of my co-worker friends to vent about this to but I’m sure they’ll think he’s an idiot too.
