Unfiltered Story #361137
(My Husband happens to be working a site near my office, so I agree to bring him lunch for the day. He sends me a very short notice text saying he’d be taking his lunch break earlier than planned, and I had about 15 minutes to pick it up and bring it to him. I decide to call the restaurant he requested to place an order so I’d be able to just run in, pay, and leave with the food.)
Employee: “Thanks for calling (restaurant), can you please hold?”
Me: “yes, that’s fine.”
(At this point I’m already on the road. Knowing it’s a small place with few employees, I assume he needs to finish ringing up a customer at the counter and should only take a minute or two. At some point, still on hold, I realize I’ve gotten close enough to the restaurant that if they finally answer and I place an order, I’d be pulling into the parking lot already. I hang up and resign to just ordering when I get there.
I arrive and walk in. There’s only one customer in the place and he’s already seated with his food. I go up to the counter and the employee greets me. He suddenly looks down and realizes the cordless phone is sitting there.)
Employee: (with a look of straight panic, grabs the phone) “Thank you for holding, can I help you? …. Hello, are you still there?”
(I just stare for a second, thinking maybe someone else called after I did. When I realize no one is answering him:)
Me: “uh yeah, that would have been my call, about 10 minutes ago? But I’m here now.”
(He looked very sheepish and apologized.)
