Halloween has never been a big thing over here but the last few years has been starting to grow. A friend had gotten a job at a Halloween event and had given me a couple of free tickets so I took my 21 year old son with me. I had never been into a haunted house before and there were several to choose from at this event. We chose one and were on the line watching men come running out screaming with fear.

Son “Mum I think this is going to be too scary for you”

Me “I’m a big girl and I go ghost hunting in cemeteries at night, I’m sure I’ll handle this” *secretly feeling a little apprehensive but we get inside and as soon as the first ghoul jumps out at us I realise the absurdity of it, son jumps, I just laugh. We enter the second room, I notice a staircase with a wheelchair being pulled back up it. I quickly walk past it and stop suddenly which means my son stops right behind me just as the wheelchair comes careening down the stairs right at him.

Son *screams, freezes in fear before turning to me “Did that scare you” notices I am grinning at him “YOU DID THAT ON PURPOSE”

Me “So who is this too scary for?”

Just then another ghoul jumps out of the corner, son jumps and screams.

Me *shrugging ” Nice try”

Another ghoul comes up to me in another room and screams right into my face, I put my face closer to his and scream back.

We get outside.

Son “What the h*ll Mum? You weren’t even scared, is this because your friend is dressed up as a clown and now you are all brave?”

Me “Yeah probably” *I guess getting a hug and a kiss from a Pennywise clown desensitised me. I may one day be able to watch IT without having to hide in the bedroom when my husband watches it on dvd. No maybe not
