Unfiltered Story #352802

I work as a dishwasher in a pub. Sometimes, in my dish area, some different things like to appear. That’s when I ask one of my co-workers where it goes, and then I place it in its appropriate area after I wash it, if need be.

On this occasion, for some reason, I don’t ask about a particular item sitting on the dish counter. It’s a small grey box, nothing like anything I’ve seen before. Unsure what it is (without asking, for some stupid reason), I decide to place it in my dish tray.

Luckily, the one waitress is nearby, and she asks, “What are you doing? That’s a mousetrap!” Feeling like the total idiot I’ve proved myself to be, I get rid of it, setting it back to its location.

I then defend, “Honestly, I’ve never seen a mousetrap like that before! Ever. I was wondering what the hell it was! Luckily, I didn’t wash it!”

The waitress laughs, telling me that it’s OK. Despite the reassurance, I still feel embarrassed by it. Why it’s sitting up there, and not in the corner of the floor, in the first place, I don’t know. Though, my other co-worker, one of the cooks, reassures me that she, too, has never seen a mousetrap like that before, either, and she’s been there longer than me!
