Unfiltered Story #351374
Since Covid, my job seems to have gone from good to bad to worse. Here are a few scenarios that have made me quit:
Before Covid, I was working face-to-face. We had 10 min breaks in the morning and aft and then 45 min lunch. Working 8.45am to 5.15pm. These breaks were to just chill out for a bit and do whatever before going back to work. Our previous manager even got us a table tennis for the break room and made sure we had our breaks. Although the job wasn’t easy, everyone really stuck together and worked as a team. We prioritised customers and giving excellent customer service to the point that even customers enjoyed coming in. We offered a variety of services and everything. It was honestly a great place to work.
Unfortunately our manager passed away from Covid. This was when things started going downhill. We became part of the Call Centre team and literally turned into a call centre. At first we were told that everything would stay the same but soon breaks became 5 mins max and are only for going to the loo or having a drink. God forbid you do anything else in your break or have some time away from the screen!
Working hours changed from 9am to 5pm BUT you need to be logged on for 9am. Meaning you start work earlier and can finish later if you end up with a customer and don’t get paid for it.
We recently started hybrid working so we’re able to go back in. The old ticketing system was taken out to reduce costs and a teams group chat was created for office workers to let us know who was in. The amount of chaos this has created is horrendous. It’s not nice shouting out into the waiting room and pointing to people to go to the desk. Stats are also put on an Excel sheet. On top of that, a lot of the services we previously offered have been taken out and the whole place is literally depressing, to the point that customers have also pointed this out to us. Walls have been put up to create more rooms where before it was open plan to bring in more light.
Recently, the public toilet flooded. As you can imagine there was a huge mess in the public area which also seeped under the carpet of the waiting room and desks. There was also a very unpleasant smell to the point where it made us feel sick as our desks are very close to the toilets. Management advised to close the doors to customers but staff had to go straight onto the phones as they were busy. There was no consideration for the staff and it was absolutely horrible sitting next to it. Plumbers were called in and the toilet literally gushed out all the horrible mess. Literally like a scene from a movie. This all started during lunch and we had to sit and endure the smell until 5pm. Also the office was open to both staff and customers the very next day.
There have also been other incidents that have led me to quitting but these are just some of the factors. Bear in mind I have been working here for just under 10 years. It’s a shame really.
