I received an email from my electricity provider notifying me that my current tariff comes to an end in a few weeks, so they informed me that if I change tariff, I could save a lot of money. This sounded good, until I read a bit more. Here is an extract from the email:

Take a look at your Electricity tariff option. The costs shown below are based on what we think you’ll use over the next 12 months. You could save £72.09 if you pick [New Electricity Tariff]], instead of our standard variable price tariff.

Your current tariff: £483.64
Our cheapest available tariff for you [New Electricity Tariff]: £493.89

Wow! Who knew that £10.25 more is equal to £72.09 less? I guess they have managed to redefine the laws of mathematics!

Either that, or I do need to switch tariffs. Maybe to one with a provider who understands how savings really work…
