(I am allergic to dairy. I have gone to a popular coffee brand which I frequent a lot. The cashier is someone I really get along with, but the barista is new to this coffee shop)

Cashier: “Hi [my name]! The usual?”

Me: “If you could, [cashier]. Could I get it to go?”

(she cashes me out, makes a note that order is soy and verbally confirms it with the barista as well. We then chat a bit whilst my drink it being made. It arrives and I say my goodbyes before really looking at my drink. I quickly realise – fortunately from it spilling out the top hole in the drink – that there is cream on it. I know this coffee shop does not do dairy free whipping cream so I go back)

Me: [cashier]?

Cashier: “[My name]? Why are you back?”

Me: “Er… There’s cream. On my hot chocolate?”

(she gives me the biggest ‘wtf’ look, takes the cup and opens it to look at the cream. She gets the barista).

Cashier: “There’s cream in this?”

Barista: “Yeah, so?”

Cashier: “It’s a soy hot chocolate.”

Barista: “That’s just some stupid fad lifestyle choice that I won’t partake in”

Cashier: “Or she could be avoiding anaphylactic shock, because she’s allergic to dairy? And who are you to decide what’s best for the customers anyway? Our job is to give them what they ordered”

(My drink got remade by the cashier, as she’s trained on all of it. When I went back a couple of days later that barista was not there anymore; it was revealed to me that he didn’t learn from what he did with me and did it to several others so had to be let go)
