I am in line to order a coffee. A barista shouts in my direction.

Barista: Sir, dogs are not allowed in here. Take it outside.

I ignore it as I assume she’s talking to someone else. She then shouts again and points directly at me.

Me: Me?

Barista: Who else? You’re the one with the dog.

I look around myself. There’s nothing, and I don’t have anything on that could me misinterpreted as a dog.

Me: I don’t have one.

Barista: *looking her patience* I’m not going to ask again.

Me: I’m serious!

She huffs and walks around the counter. She looks at my feet and glares.

Barista: WHERE DID YOU PUT IT?

She starts running around me, and grabbing my legs. I pull her off and try to leave, but she grabs me and bars the exit. The owner then comes out and tries to calm her down. It doesn’t work, and within five minutes there are police trying to get inside. They take her into the back of the cafe and the owner escorts me outside.

Owner: I’m really sorry about that. Here. *gives me a voucher*

Me: Umm, thanks. I really don’t know what happened there.

Owner: It’s alright. She’s done it before.

Me: She has? Why didn’t you fire her?

Owner: Some people get stuck with a bad crowd. It’s hard to keep clean with that kind of pressure. You just have to hope for the best. I won’t let people go just because they stumble.

With that, he left. I still went in there and used the voucher for as long as it lasted. I didn’t see the barista for a while, but when she returned she didn’t remember me or the altercation. She seemed quite pleasant.
