Unfiltered Story #343129

(I am the author of https://notalwaysright.com/its-a-family-affair-4/292937/. Unfortunately, I accidentally cut out the middle section of my story as I was writing it.)

(This happened after I had filled their waters and was cleaning the next booth over. I can’t remember the exact wording, but it went along these lines.)

Younger Woman: Can’t we bring [Boy’s Name] and [Girls’ Name] out?

Older Woman (not very interested): No. People notice a quiet child.

(Five minutes later the mother says that she needs the bathroom and pulls the girl away with her. The younger woman stops me as I go towards the kitchen.)

Younger Woman: Do you have any of those crackers that come with soups?

Me: Yes, but you need to order a soup first.

Younger Woman: Oh. Do you have any free bread or anything on the side dishes?

Me: No, unless you order something.

(The younger woman twists the fingers together on her hands as she fidgets in her booth. She pulls out a rather outdated paper map from her satchel sitting beside her.)

Younger Woman: You don’t know where any of these places are, do you?

(I look at the map. I haven’t heard of most of the spots she points at. The paper is old and creased.)

Me: Sorry, no.

Younger Woman: You don’t know where I can get a copy of [Teen Drama Movie featuring Pie], do you? My brother really wants one.

Me: No. Maybe they have it on Netflix.

Younger Woman: On…what?

(I’m amazed that a woman in her early twenties seems to have no clue what Netflix is. I’m about to ask more when the older woman and the girl come out of the bathroom. The older woman is telling the girl off for something. The younger woman looks at me with wide eyes.)

Younger Woman (scared): Get away from me!

Me: Why?

Younger Woman (to Older Woman, loudly): Do you want dessert?

(When I saw the older woman in the news a couple of years later, it was related to abusing children.)
