Unfiltered Story #342785

My father used to tell me a (possibly apocryphal) story about a professor at Oxford University who played the tuba.

You see, the parking garage near his building was quite expensive if you stayed all day, but the first half hour was free. How it worked was, you drove up to the gate, the machine dispensed you a ticket and then the boom raised up to let you in. On the way out, you inserted your ticket and paid the cost and the exit boom let you out.

Well, this professor discovered that the combined weigh of himself and the tuba was sufficient to trigger the pressure pad at the entrance. So at the end of the day, he would haul his tuba to the entrance, the pressure pad would think he was a new car entering and issue him a ticket. He would then put the tuba back in the car and leave with his new ticket under the free half hour.
