Unfiltered Story #342652
(My boyfriend related this story to me. This happened when he was about fourteen years old and his older sister about sixteen. His sister was going through the phase where weight and body image is extremely important.
Note: In our language, ‘full’ can be an adverb, enhancing an adjective. It is similar to the English term ‘totally’. So, ‘full fat’ is the same as saying ‘totally fat’ or ‘extremely fat’.
The only exception to this rule is the term ‘full thin’ which means as much as ‘chubby’.)
(At the dinner table.)
Sister: How do I look in this dress? Does it make me look fat?
(Mother and younger brother reply accordingly, telling her she looks fine. Only my Boyfriend was not paying any attention. He is only catching on at the last moment and without thinking adds this gem:)
Boyfriend: No, you look full thin.
(His sister runs upstairs, crying. His mother starts scolding him.)
Boyfriend: But what did I do…?
(Only later did he figure out the meaning of the term ‘full thin’)
