Unfiltered Story #342587
I’m math, we’re taking a test. One section requires you to answer some questions about a graph. The graph is of imaginary students’ test scores in an imaginary class.
The first question asks how many students there are, that being 120. The second says that [Name] thinks this is a big class, and asks for you to explain whether she’s right or wrong.
I answer something like, “She isn’t right nor wrong; that’s just an opinion. To her and others, that may seem like a big class, but in other parts of the world or other classes, like in colleges, that’s normal. [Name] isn’t wrong or right, she’s just expressing an opinion.”
When I get the test back, it’s graded 14/15, with the “[Name] thinks this is a big class” question marked wrong. I go to the teacher and ask her if she could change my grade, and re-explained my logic.
She asked if I thought 120 students was a small class. I said no, but re-re-explained my logic. She told me I was wrong and she could not change the grade.
After a little bit of this back and forth, I gave up and went back to my seat. This teacher ended up being one of my favorites, but, years later, this still bothers me.
