Unfiltered Story #342023
(I used to work at an amusement park, on rides. We would rotate to various spots, i.e. getting people in their seats, dividing people into separate lines, actually running the ride, etc. Our supervisors say that we are allowed to discuss any problems or concerns we have with them, but unfortunately they punish us anyways by keeping us in the same position all day. I hadn’t really experienced this until a few weeks in when I spoke to one of them after work one night about a problem. I thought I had actually gotten through to him, because he was acting all understanding and said we’d work on things. The next day, on my 8 hour shift, I get stuck in a spot for the first three hours, with 100 degree weather and blazing sun out, and only one cup of water. I request more water several times but never get any. After the third hour I figured out what was going on, and then that one supervisor shows up.)
Supervisor: Taking his grand old time walking over to my station. He finally gets there. “Hey…”
Me: Acting surprised he’d come over. “Oh, hi.”
Supervisor: “So, you might have noticed that you’ve been here a while.”
Me: In a semi-crackly voice because I’m dehydrating. “Oh, yeah.”
Supervisor: “I was actually going to keep you here the whole shift, but after last night’s talk, I decided I’d only keep you until your break.”
Me: Hiding my bewilderment, I nod. “Okay.”
Supervisor: Proceeds to walk to his break without getting me more water.
Co-worker: Stares at me, also bewildered, from the other side of the kiddy ride we were working on, just as irritated by my supervisor’s actions as I was.
Me: Sighing in defeat. “I just want some water, man.”
(I got stuck at that position two more times that day, and so did my co-worker, who’d gotten stuck with me the first time. I sent in my two-week resignation notice a few days later, then learned that the same co-worker had gotten punished the next day, because he’d talked to the ride’s head supervisor about what happened to me. Our head sup talked to the first sup, and that first sup proceeded to punish my co-worker. I don’t plan on working at an amusement park ever again.)
