Unfiltered Story #342017
Years ago, I was working as a cashier in a department store. A family is checking out and I see they have an avengers puzzle so I make some small talk with the child.
Me: Are you a big fan of the Avengers?
Little Boy: Yeah! Do you like them too?
Me: I do! My favorite is Captain America, who’s your favorite?
Little Boy: Black Widow! She’s so cool and I wanna be just like her. For Halloween I want to be Black Widow!
At this the boy’s father steps into the conversation.
Father: No f*cking way. I’m not having my son be a f*g and go as a girl for Halloween. You can be something manly like the hulk instead.
They paid and the little boy left in tears as the father berated him for liking Black Widow.
It kills me how much parents force gender roles onto their kids because it’s the “right thing”. The right thing is to love your child and support them for their interests.
