Unfiltered Story #339085

Our hard work has just paid off, and something good has just happened.

Me: Woo, I knew we could do it! Now we just have to keep it up. I’m going to be listening to Eye of the Tiger all day.

Coworker: What do you mean?

Me: Oh, it’s a classic song that you kinda listen to in order to like… pump yourself up. It was in a famous movie.

Coworker: *impatiently* I know that, but what do you mean?

Me: I… mean I’m gonna listen to it to pump myself up because we did well, and I want us to keep doing well?

Coworker: No, but what do you mean by that??

Me: I… I don’t know what you’re asking. Do you mean how I INTEND to keep doing well?

Coworker: No, I just don’t know what you mean when you said that!

Me: *looking helplessly at other coworkers who just look baffled* I just… I meant what I said. We did a good job. It’s a song about psyching yourself up, kinda, and that’s what I’m going to be doing here. Reminding myself to keep working hard because it pays off.

Coworker: Ugh, forget it!

He stormed off angrily. To this day, I’m still not sure where the disconnect between us was, and which of us was completely missing what the other said. He was completely fine about it the next day, and I’ve just opted to never bring it up, but to this day in the office whenever someone is confused about something or makes a silly mistake, we refer to it as an “Eye of the Tiger Situation”… when that coworker isn’t around, of course.
