(My partner and I have our birthday’s a week apart, and although we have been together for a number of years, my family haven’t spent the time learning when his birthday is. We are out for lunch with my mother to celebrate).

Me: You know it’s [partner’s] birthday on Wednesday too.
Mum: What? Why didn’t you tell me?
Me: I did. Several times.
Mum: Well, how am I supposed to remember that? You can’t just tell me these things and expect me to remember!
