I was a nurse in the 90s and I worked the midnight-to-8 shift. One night there was a raging blizzard with howling winds, and one of the patients demanded I do something about the wind because he couldn’t sleep. I don’t remember what I actually told him, but it definitely wasn’t what I was thinking, which was, “Sure, dude, I’ll get right on the special red phone to God we have at the nurses’ station and have that taken care of immediately. That’s why patients never code on this ward, you know.”
