Unfiltered Story #32765

Unfiltered | June 29, 2017

(We are in 7th grade Spanish. My teacher is having us go around the room finding cards and writing down the task listed on the cards. One of these tasks is to conjugate a present tense verb. I hear a kid talking to some of his friends.)

Student: “What’s present tense?”

Me: *overhearing* “Did you not pass the fifth grade or something?”

Student: “What?”

Me: “How have you not passed the fifth grade not knowing what present tense is?”

Student: “Well, explain it to me!”

(Note, my mother is a linguistics professor, so I’ve learned how to explain language easily. I explain what present tense means (in fully comprehendable English with an example!) to the student.)

Student: “In English, please.”

Me: *face palm*

(I’m still wondering how that kid and his friend made it past elementary school!)
