Unfiltered Story #32532

Unfiltered | November 4, 2016

In my junior year of high school art teacher had us reading the Herman Melville story Bartleby the scrivener. This story was famous for the line “I prefer not to” constantly repeated by the main character. One day our teacher was out sick and left us an assignment to do by the substitute teacher. As a joke we all decided to hand in pieces of paper that said “I prefer not to.” We all did our assignment anyway but we didn’t hand it in.

The next day our teacher was back, furious at all of us for not having done our work (having read our ‘submissions’ before class). The look on his face when we showed him we had all done the assignment and just played a trick on him was priceless. He laughed hysterically and really appreciated the good joke
