Unfiltered Story #314781
I was born in Texas, moved to Japan as a child for a couple years, then to Minnesota. In Texas, I had a good friend [Friend #1] who I lost touch with. In Minnesota, I made another friend, [Friend #2]. Over ten years later, we are all in college. I am in a small college in a small town in New England, [Friend #2] started at a U.S. school, then spent the last half of her college years in Japan. She comes back for winter break.
[Friend #2]: Do you know someone named [Friend #1]? She said you two went to elementary school together.
Me: Yes, she was my best friend. How do you know her?
Friend #2: While I was in Japan, there were a group of students studying abroad. We got to talking and I was telling her about school and mentioned you were from Texas and she said she was too. After a while, we realized we both knew you.
[Friend #2] puts me in touch with [Friend #1]. It gets weirder. [Friend #1] is in college in a small neighboring state and has relatives in the town where I am attending college. We get back in touch and are delighted. Over the years, we have kept in touch sporadically. I went back to Minnesota, and she ended up teaching in Iowa for a few years. I attended graduate school in a neighboring small town from where I attended college. Right around the time I graduated, she went out to a large city in the same state. We haven’t seen each other in person, in several years, but at this rate, I’m waiting for the day we bump into each other on the street.
