Unfiltered Story #313360
My sister and BIL are coming over from England to Belgium for the holidays so me and my dad go to the airport to pick them up.
My dad has a very reflective yellow jacket because Belgium is a dark country and he likes to cycle safely.
He’s wearing the bright yellow vest while we are standing outside the airport waiting for the travellers to come out.
A lady comes up to us but clearly addresses my dad: “I need to buy a ticket for the bus to [city], where can I buy it?”
Since we’re not at the airport we know, we have no idea and send her to two stewards.
A while later another lady comes up to us, once again only addressing my dad: “Can we go inside?”
We knew we couldn’t since we asked the stewards the same question when we arrived so we replied: “No, but if you need to go to the toilet, it’s over there.” The lady was very happy.
Then a man comes up to us and me and my dad are getting confused by all the questions.
The man asks, all in French slang that we barely understand because we speak Flemish: “Can we not go inside? It’s way too cold out here! Is there not a heated room where we can wait?”
So once again, we say no, sadly, they don’t allow it because of the panini.
Me and my dad are very confused by all the questions now, we are here to pick up the family, like the rest of them so why are we getting the questions even though there are two stewards 10 metres away from is?
Eventually, me and my dad figure out it’s because he’s wearing a reflective vest like stewards normally would wear. The real stewards at the airport wore the same vest but in bright, flashy orange.
Moral of the story: if you want to talk to people, wear a brightly coloured vest at an event or big building.
