Unfiltered Story #313349
A coworker wanted to take a “mental health day” to call in sick, but planned to go hit the beach.
His first mistake was that he wasn’t bright enough to realize that bragging about his plan around the office was a really stupid idea.
His second mistake was to decide that the middle of a massive project, during the crunch time, was the perfect time to play hooky. People got their days off as legally required of course, but PTO was not being approved short of a hospital stay.
His third mistake was that he was on the list of people who were approved to work from home as needed.
So my coworker called up to let boss-man know he can’t come in.
Coworker: “Boss-Man, I’m sick, can’t come to work today.”
Boss-Man: “Oh, sorry to hear that, but we really do have a lot of work.”
Coworker: “I know, but I just can’t come in today.”
Boss-Man, in a tone that parents use on kids: “Oh, but you work from home sometimes, riiiight?”
Coworker: “Umm, yeah.”
Boss-Man: “Great! Then instead of taking the day off, wouldn’t you be able to work from home instead?”
Coworker, disappointed: “Uhhh, yeah, I guess so.”
Boss-Man: “Super! So let me know where you are now, then at the end of the day let me know how far you got.”
So while he didn’t have to actually come In, no beach-day either.
