Unfiltered Story #313334
I’ve worked for a company for nine month through temporary contracts that were renewed every week. One of the advantages I was promised with those contracts was a card containing meal vouchers, meaning some extra money that can only be used on food items. You have a year to use the vouchers, after that the money is lost. At the end of my contract, I still hadn’t received this card. I called the company to ask why, and was told the card was at my previous employment place, so I called them.
Me: Hello, I’m [Name], I’m calling because I never received my meal voucher card for when I worked with you at [Place].
Note: the place is important in the context of this story.
Company: Hello, please give me a moment (pause). Oh, yes, we do have your card. You can come collect it during our opening hours.
Me: Ah… It is a bit of a problem, I am working the same hours, and nobody I know can get it for me. Plus, I don’t drive and it’s pretty far away from where I live. Would it be possible to send it to me by post?
Company: Unfortunately no, ma’am. The letter could get lost during transfer or delivered at the wrong address, so by our policy, we are not allowed to send it by post.
Me: Oh, okay then. I’ll take a day off on Friday and will come collect the card at [Place], then. Have a nice day.
Fast forward to Friday, where I took a day off to collect my card. When I arrived at my previous employment place, surprise! The building is empty. I check on Google, the company is still advertised at this place, but on their website I can’t find their address in town. They probably moved, but that meant I had no idea where I should collect the card and, furthermore, I couldn’t go to any of the other places without a car.
Instead of calling [Company] back, I contacted the business that issued the card and explained the situation. They agreed to void the card and send me a new one by post without question. I received it a week later, and it would not have been a problem if it had arrived to another’s person’s home as to activate my card, they’d need my national number.
It’s true I probably should have checked the address of the company beforehand to see if they were still there, but when I said I would come get my card at [Place], they didn’t say a word about them having moved. Anyway, I’m glad to have my card.
