Unfiltered Story #312625
I’m in my early teens, doing some back-to-school clothes shopping with my mother. The cashier has a very pretty silver Star of David necklace. I’m a pretty sheltered Christian kid, so any non-Christian religious symbol seems exotic to me.
Cashier: “Did you find everything you were looking for today?”
Mom: “Yes.”
Me: “Your necklace is really pretty!”
Cashier: “Thank you!”
Me: “It’s a Star of David, right?”
The cashier pauses in scanning our items.
Cashier: “People have been complimenting me on this necklace for ages, but you’re the first person to actually know what it is.”
Now that I’m older, I can’t imagine how weird it would be to wear a religious symbol to work, have multiple people compliment you on it, and have it be recognized only by a seventh-grader.
