Friend: has your place got any weekend work?

Me: sorry, I don’t think they hire weekend staff. I thought your place had loads of overtime?

Friend: they took me off it, someone lied about me and now I can’t do it.

(I heard this “lie”, it was that he turned up for overtime then while still being paid would go and do some shopping or have a nap. Something he has bragged about doing.)

Me: thats tough, sorry i can’t help. I could let you know if it changes though.

(He seems to think for a moment.)

Friend: I could borrow a couple hundred off you could I?

(I’m a bit shocked he asked, I have two kids a expensive mortgage and it’s coming up to Christmas. He is single and I know his bills are next to nothing.)

Me: sorry, mate really tough this time of year. I though you where doing OK? You’ve got your new car and holiday?

Friend: oh, yeah well. I owe a few people some money and they need it back.

(I noped out of that one, no way am I lending money to someone who can’t pay the last person he borrowed money off.
I find out later he took some big loan to pay for his car and holiday, then borrowed a load of money of family and friends when he couldn’t pay.

Eventually someone convinced him to give back the car and start actually budgeting. He still parties most of his money away, but doesn’t come begging from me.)
