Unfiltered Story #312537
I’m a wheelchair and I need to get to the hospital. While it is usually no issue, things just don’t ‘work’ today. My tram was late, I feel weaker than usual, it’s raining hard, I’m tired… just one of those bad days.
When I reach the hospital, I remember the path to the door is slightly uphill and uneven. This is usually no issue, but today I feel every bump is a hill I need to climb. I am struggling, when I suddenly hear:
Woman: Excuses me, do you want help?
It seems it is obvious I need help, but the woman still asks.
Me: Yes, please, today is not a great day.
Woman: Of course! I assume you need to get inside?
Me: Yes, please.
I see the woman struggling with her umbrella, but she just gives up and pushes me through the rain, getting wet as well. She makes jokes like: ‘How fast do you want to go?’ and ‘Put your seatbelt on!’ and pushes on a nice, steady, calm pace.
Me: Oh, could you push the button on the rotating doors, so they go slower?
Woman: Ooh! I was never allowed to push that button. Now I finally can!
She makes quite the show of pushing on that button. I thank her and go inside the hospital. Behind the rotating doors there is a [healthcrisis] check-in, so I couldn’t look back or wave, but she certainly did all she could to make me feel better.
